Tackling an eating disorder is not an easy task. Here are a few tools you can put in your toolkit for dealing with stressful days when you need a little extra support:

#1 Keep Track Of Your Progress

Find a journal that you really enjoy. Pick a journal whose cover you really like and that makes you feel good when you look at it. You are more likely to use a journal if you like how it looks and feels.

Use your journal to keep track of how you are progressing and feeling each day. Write down your victories and your struggles. Just free write a page each day of your thoughts. When you are having a tough day, you'll have a place to write down your thoughts and a place where you can look back at days where things were going well.

#2 Make A Connection With The Larger Community

Next, try to make a connection with the larger community. Having a connection with something outside of your treatment can give you an outlet to be an individual and not always have to focus on your eating disorder.

For example, if you love theater, join a theater group. Or if you really like to read, join a book group. Or find somewhere to volunteer. For example, if you love working with kids, see if you can volunteer at your library's reading hour.

Finding and making connections and having outside interests can help you regain your sense of else. It is important to take care of your mental health as well as your physical health as you recover from an eating disorder.

#3 Find A Quiet Activity You Love

Finally, find a quiet activity that you love. For example, it could be coloring or walking or doing Thai Chi. Find something that you enjoy that can allow you to feel centered and relax on your own. This should be something that you can do on your own.

When dealing with the recovery process from an eating disorder, you want to have lots of tools in your basket to help you deal with tough days. Keep a journal of your journey to inspire you when you need it and to provide you with an outlet. Make some connections with your community and nurture your other interests. Find a few things you enjoy doing on your own to keep calm. These tools will help you during your recovery process.
